American DG Energy Earns EPA and DOE Recognition
American DG Energy Receives 2008 Energy Star CHP (Combined Heat and Power) Award
WALTHAM, Mass. - May 22, 2008
American
DG Energy Inc. (OTC.BB:ADGE), a leading On-Site Utility offering clean electricity, heat, hot water and cooling to hospitality, healthcare, housing and athletic facilities, was honored with a 2008 Energy Star CHP (Combined Heat and Power) Award by the US Department of Energy (DOE) and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for the pollution reduction and energy efficiency qualities of its CHP project at the Westfield YMCA, located in Westfield, NJ. The 140 kW system simultaneously supplies electricity and heat which is used for domestic hot water production for showers and heat for swimming pools.
“As we were previously honored by the EPA for the combined emissions reductions of all our CHP projects, we are pleased to be recognized by the EPA for this individual project,” stated John Hatsopoulos, Chief Executive Office of American DG Energy. “By our own estimates, this single 140 kW CHP system can offset CO2 emissions equivalent to planting 70 acres of trees or eliminating the emissions of over 40 cars.”
To be recognized, a project must meet EPA criteria for efficiency and fuel savings and make outstanding contributions to reducing greenhouse gas emissions from energy production. American DG Energy’s Westfield YMCA CHP Project received the 2008 Energy Star CHP Award because it reduces CO2 emissions by approximately 255 tons per year and uses 21 percent less fuel than comparable, state-of-the-art separate heat and power generation. CHP is an efficient, clean and reliable approach to generating both power and thermal energy from a single fuel source.
